On Saturday, a girl was set on fire by her ex-boyfriend in Cuddapah district of Andhra Pradesh. The name of the accused is Vignesh. The victim, a class 11 student, was battling for her life while the police had started searching for the accused. The accused is a childhood friend of the victim.
According to the police, the accused had recently married another girl, but he wanted to maintain a relationship with her also. On Saturday, he called the victim and expressed his desire to meet her. He said that if she was not found he would give up his life.
Cheated him into an auto and took him to a deserted place
The victim agreed to meet and boarded an auto rickshaw from her college. After some distance the accused also joined him. They reached a place near the Century Plywood Factory. It is not known what happened between the two but after some time the accused poured petrol on her and set her on fire. Hearing the screams of the girl, the farmers working in the nearby fields ran to save her and extinguished the fire.
The victim suffered 80 percent burns
Locals informed the police, who admitted the victim to a hospital in Badvel. Later, he was shifted to Cuddapah and admitted to Rajiv Gandhi Institute of Medical Sciences (RIMS). The accused ran away from there. The victim suffered 80 percent burns. She was struggling between life and death. The District Judge has recorded his statement. Meanwhile, taking the incident seriously, Chief Minister N. Chandrababu Naidu directed the police officials to immediately arrest the accused. He spoke to the officials over phone and inquired about the girl’s condition. He asked them to ensure the best possible treatment for the victim.
