After 75 years, a big disaster has struck China.
The most powerful cyclone ever recorded, Typhoon Bebinca, made landfall in Shanghai on Monday morning. Amid strong winds and heavy rain in the coastal areas early in the morning, the Xi Jinping government has shut down flights, highways and rail services as a safety measure.
Earlier in 1949, a storm caused heavy destruction in many parts of the country. The Chinese Meteorological Department fears that Bebinca’s havoc could be even more dangerous than that.
An alert has been issued for heavy rain and storm in many parts of the city today. The city’s 250 crore population has been appealed to stay indoors and be cautious.
On the instructions of the government, four emergency teams have been kept on alert.
According to Chinese government media, the most powerful typhoon to hit Shanghai in 75 years, Bebinca, hit on Monday. City officials said a red alert has been issued and people living in coastal areas have been rescued and shifted to safer places.
The storm made landfall on the coastal area of Pudong’s Lingang New City, east of the city on Monday morning, the China Meteorological Administration said.
