The US has deployed medium-range missile system in the Philippines.
This has increased the tension of China, the neighbouring country of the Philippines. China has lodged its strong objection to the deployment of the American missile system.
On this concern of China, America has said that this missile system has been deployed only for war exercises.
There is no intention to use it against China or any other country. Philippines Foreign Minister Enrique Manalo met Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on this matter.
Speaking to the media after this meeting, when he was asked about the Chinese reaction to the missile system, he said that we have assured them that there is nothing to worry about. This is only a part of the war exercise.
China actually claims that Sabina Shoal, also known as Jianbin Reef, is in Chinese territory. The area is currently occupied by the Philippines and it is closely monitoring any activity by the Philippines.
Meanwhile, the US military said in April that it had sent a ground-attack medium-range missile system to the Philippines.
This system sent by the US was not used during the military exercise. When all military material was taken out of the Philippines during this period, this missile system was not taken out with it.
However, the Philippines Army has said that this missile system will leave the country by the end of this month.
The dispute between China and the Philippines is a long-standing one. China claims the entire South China Sea. The US and the Philippines condemn China’s aggressive stance in the region, which includes overlapping claims with several other countries.
Recently, China had also made unilateral changes to its maritime rules in an act of bullying, after which a situation of confrontation arose between the navies of China and the Philippines.
China had seized the Philippines’ ships and held their sailors captive. Then the Philippines expressed its displeasure over this and only then those ships were released.
