China has become a thorn in its side, Canada wants to join this military alliance to compete with it…

Canadian Defence Minister Bill Blair revealed that his country is considering joining the AUKUS military alliance.

This alliance was established between the US, UK and Australia to counter China’s growing military influence in the Indo-Pacific region.

Now Canada also wants to join it. Canada has expressed its desire to join the second pillar of AUKUS, in which cooperation will be done on new military technologies like Artificial Intelligence (AI) and quantum computing. However, no detailed information has been revealed on this yet.

Bill Blair is currently meeting Japan’s Defense Minister Minoru Kihara in Tokyo. He said that important discussions are going on in this regard.

He said, “We and other countries like Japan are in talks for participation in these processes and project-specific platforms. I am optimistic, but the final decision is awaited.” Let us tell you that in recent times, there has been a lot of bitterness in the relations between Canada and China. Now Canada is expanding its policy in Asia.

Let us tell you that the first phase of the AUKUS alliance focused on nuclear submarine technology for Australia, but now its expansion is being discussed.

Apart from Canada, other countries like Japan are also discussing joining it. This was Blair’s first visit to Japan, where he arrived from South Korea. South Korea is also discussing its role in AUKUS.

Canada is currently seeking to enhance its security role in Asia and has prioritized deepening its ties with Japan and South Korea.

At the same time, the country is increasing its defence spending to meet its domestic and international defence commitments. Blair informed that Canada’s defence budget will increase by 27% next year compared to this year, and this expenditure will triple in the coming three to four years.

In addition, Blair and Kihara also discussed Chinese incursions into Japanese territory, over which Tokyo lodged a formal protest with Beijing last month.

This Chinese military activity may also be discussed in the G7 defence ministers meeting to be held in Italy next month.

Let us tell you that AUKUS is a triangular security agreement established in 2021 between Australia, Britain (UK), and the US.

It aims to enhance defence and security cooperation between these countries, especially in the Indo-Pacific region. Under AUKUS, these countries have focused on the development and partnership of nuclear submarines, as well as increasing cooperation in the field of cybersecurity, AI and other advanced technologies.
