China has unveiled its second fifth-generation stealth fighter jet, the Shenyang J-35, at its biggest air show.
With this achievement, China has now become the second country after the US to have more than one fifth generation fighter jet.
The J-35 is a twin-engine, single-seater supersonic jet developed for multi-role missions. This is China’s second fifth generation fighter jet after J-20.
It will be surprising to know that the design of the J-35 is similar to the American Lockheed Martin F-35, although the main difference is that the J-35 has twin-engines while the F-35 has only one engine.
China is also known for copying the designs of many foreign aircraft. Take, for example, the J-20’s design, which matches the American F-22 Raptor. Similarly, the Chengdu J-10, also known as the “Vigorous Dragon,” is similar to the American F-16.
“The aircraft can enhance the country’s integrated combat capabilities,” the Global Times, the mouthpiece of the Chinese Communist Party, reported.
The J-35A’s scope covers both stealth and counter-stealth warfare strategies. Its main objective is to maintain air superiority, destroy enemy fourth and fifth generation fighter jets and surface air defense forces and intercept enemy air targets such as bombers and cruise missiles.
China is planning to include it in its Air Force and Navy. The American F-35 also has three variants – F-35A for the Air Force, F-35B for the Marine Corps, and F-35C for the Navy.
China is also going to copy this. Earlier this year, China’s largest and heaviest aircraft carrier “Fujian” also left for sea trials. This conventionally powered aircraft carrier weighs more than 80,000 tons and has the most powerful aircraft launch system EMALS (Electromagnetic Aircraft Launch System), which is currently operated only by the US Navy’s USS Gerald R Ford.
A US Defense Department report citing China’s naval modernization and its implications states that China is possibly developing a version of its FC-31/J-31 fighter that can be deployed on aircraft carriers.
Additionally, China is also reportedly developing a carrier-based early warning aircraft (NAEW) called the KJ-600 that resembles the US Navy’s E-2 Hawkeye AEW aircraft, as well as a stealth drone aircraft. doing.
The J-35 is considered to be a lighter version of the J-20, but no concrete information is yet available about the combat capabilities of both the aircraft. The development of this fighter jet indicates that China is attempting to counter American military power, especially in the Indo-Pacific region. The J-35’s participation in the air show indicates that the jet is ready for deployment.
