Kolkata News: A case of gang rape of a 22 year old girl has come to light in Narendrapur area of Kolkata. The incident took place the day after Kali Puja, when a young man, whom the victim had met on social media, wooed her and invited her to visit the pandal with him. The young man mixed intoxicants in her drink and rendered her unconscious, after which he and his friends raped her.
The incident began on November 1 when the victim, a resident of East Jadavpur police station area in south Kolkata, had left her home to visit the pandal. The victim has alleged that the youth, who had befriended her on Facebook, called her to meet him at Garia railway station. From there he took her to one of his houses located in Dhalua area of Narendrapur.
Made unconscious by giving intoxicants
According to the police, the accused first gave the girl a soft drink in which he mixed intoxicants. The girl became unconscious after drinking it, and then the accused along with his friends committed this crime. After the victim regained consciousness, her family members took her to M.R. Admitted to Bangur Hospital.
Police arrested two accused
After being discharged from the hospital, the victim lodged a complaint about this incident at Narendrapur Police Station. Taking action in this case, the police have arrested two accused, who have been identified as Rajeev Sardar and Rakesh Naskar. Four people were reportedly involved in the incident, and police are searching for the other two accused.
Police said that the statement of the victim will be recorded before the magistrate and the evidence collected from the crime scene will be sent for forensic investigation. In this case, the police have registered a case against the accused under the sections of gang rape and imprisonment. Police have started collecting CCTV footage from around the incident site so that the entire sequence of the incident can be understood and concrete evidence can be collected against the accused.
The family members of the accused said – sons were falsely accused
On Tuesday, the families of the accused claimed that their sons have been falsely implicated in a case, but the police say that they are thoroughly investigating the matter and all the evidence is being collected. The police is trying to ensure that there are no shortcomings in the case so that a strong charge sheet can be prepared against the accused.
The identity of the victim has been kept confidential so that her rights can be respected and the instructions of the Supreme Court can be followed. It is mandatory not to reveal the identity of the victim in cases related to sexual harassment.
