Congress will put pressure on Center to add caste count in census: Revanth Reddy
Telangana Chief Minister A. Revanth Reddy said the Congress will pressurize the Central government to include caste enumeration in the census next year. So that the 50 percent limit on reservation in political, educational and employment can be crossed.
Meanwhile, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that Telangana is creating history by conducting caste survey. Whereas the central government has failed to conduct the national level census every decade. Speaking at a function organized on Children’s Day, Telangana Chief Minister Reddy said that the ongoing caste survey of the state government should be made successful so that people realize its purpose.
Also, reservation can be increased and resources should be provisioned in proportion to the population. He said that some people are spreading false rumors that if the details of the survey are released, government facilities will stop. But this will benefit only the intended beneficiaries. Describing the caste survey as a mega-health checkup of the society, he said that the government intends to provide benefits of welfare schemes to everyone after collecting relevant details from the people.
It is noteworthy that the Telangana government has taken the historic step of starting ‘Comprehensive Social, Economic, Employment, Political and Caste Survey’ in this Congress ruled state from November 9. Congress leader Rahul Gandhi had promised to conduct caste census in the state during the elections.
Meanwhile, in New Delhi, Congress General Secretary Jairam Ramesh said that the caste survey is a revolutionary step for social justice. This is an exercise to increase administrative capacity. He told on X that 80 thousand people are working in this marathon target who are surveying 1.17 families of 33 districts.
