CJI DY Chandrachud said that the meeting of a judge with people holding high positions in the government does not make any difference to the judicial functioning.
Last month, Prime Minister Modi had reached CJI Chandrachud’s residence during Ganpati Puja. After this, opposition leaders, many former judges and well-known lawyers had raised objections to this.
While answering questions during a program, the CJI said that there is a traditional meeting between the Chief Justice and the Chief Ministers many times.
Now what do people think about why they are meeting? They do not meet to take any decision.
According to the report of the Indian Express, during a program, the CJI was asked whether there are meetings between senior judicial officers and politicians on Republic Day, Independence Day or other occasions? Responding to this, the CJI said, the maturity of our political system depends on the fact that there is a lot of difference of opinion between the judiciary and them.
CJI said that the government passes the budget for the construction of new buildings for judicial work. For this the Chief Justice will also have to meet the Chief Minister.
When I was the Chief Justice of Allahabad High Court. Apart from this, he worked for the Administrative Committee of Bombay High Court.
There is a tradition in the states that when someone becomes Chief Justice for the first time, he meets the Chief Minister. For the second time the Chief Minister meets the Chief Justice. These meetings have different agendas.
CJI asked, what was discussed in the meeting. The Chief Minister never says that discussions were held on any pending matter.
They also know that both of us have different fields. At the same time, administrative relations remain between the High Court and the governments.
Similarly, work is done in the center also. But we are so mature that we know that this is not going to have any impact on the judicial work or decisions.
CJI said, the Chief Justice will definitely meet people on Independence Day, Republic Day or when a wedding takes place at someone’s house.
CJI Chandrachud said that the meeting between the people of the government and the judiciary is an example of the strong relationship between the three pillars of government.
