Crackdown on police officer who tortured former MP during Corona period

Ongole. Andhra Pradesh Police on Tuesday took major action in the case of alleged custodial torture of Raghuram Krishna Raju during the previous YSRCP regime. Police arrested retired senior police officer Vijay Paul. K Raghuram Krishna Raju is the current Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Legislative Assembly.

The case is of May 2021. Raghuram Krishna Raju was arrested for some time during the second wave of Covid-19. During that time he was the MP from Narsapuram and he had made controversial remarks on the Chief Minister, after which he was detained.

During the arrest of K Raghuram Krishna Raju, Vijay Paul served as the CID Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) and allegedly played a role in the custodial torture of the former YSRCP MP. K Raghuram Krishna Raju later left YSRCP and joined TDP.

In the new TDP government in June, he was made the Deputy Speaker of the Andhra Pradesh Assembly and represents Undi assembly constituency. He has complained to the police that the officials and former CM acted unfairly towards him. Police said they have filed a report against him and alleged that he was tortured in custody and attempted murder.
