Custom action at Mumbai airport, three arrested in gold and diamond smuggling case, goods worth Rs 3.12 crore seized

Mumbai The Customs Department at Mumbai Airport seized a total of 2.286 kg of gold and diamonds in two separate cases on the night of Friday 20-21 September. The estimated value of these diamonds and gold is Rs 1.54 crore (price of diamonds) and Rs 1.58 crore (price of gold). This gold and diamond was hidden in special places made near the body of the passengers, secret places in the vest and near the belt of the pants. Three passengers have been arrested in this case. According to the information received, in the first case, the customs at the airport stopped a passenger who arrived in Mumbai from Dubai and recovered smuggled goods from him, which included 12 bars of 24 carat gold (total weight 1400 grams), whose estimated value is Rs 97,00,236. This gold was hidden near the belt of the pants worn by the passenger. During interrogation, the passenger told that this work was done at the behest of another passenger traveling in the same flight. The co-passenger also admitted this in his statement. Both the passengers were arrested.

In the second case, a passenger coming from Hong Kong to Mumbai was stopped at the airport and confiscated smuggled goods were recovered from him, which included two 24-carat gold bangles (total weight 886 grams, worth Rs 61,38,864), a Rolex watch (worth Rs 13,70,520) and natural diamonds (worth Rs 1,54,18,575). The gold bangles and Rolex watch were worn by the passenger, while the diamonds were hidden in a special place inside the vest worn by the passenger. In this case too, a passenger was arrested. The Customs Department is investigating both the cases.
