A case of school students being forced to clean septic tanks has come to light in Karnataka.
It is reported that the cleaning students come from Scheduled Caste i.e. SC. At present, action has been taken in this matter and many officers including the Principal have been suspended.
Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has also informed that orders for investigation have been issued in the matter.
The incident took place at Morarji Desai Residential School in Kolar district. It is being said that this matter had gained momentum after some videos surfaced.
State government minister HC Mahadevappa issued orders saying, ‘A responsible organization cannot employ children in such work.
This is extremely condemnable. As soon as I got information about this, I spoke to the principal and suspended the principal, warden and other officials.
Apart from Principal Bharatamma, the names of teachers Muniyappa, Abhishek and Warden Manjunath are among those suspended. CM says, ‘I have come to know about this incident and have called for the report. Strict action will be taken based on the report.

In the purported videos, it is seen that some 5-6 children of class 7th to 9th were lowered into the septic tank and got it cleaned. During this time the principal and teachers were present on the spot. Students are also shown describing problems and issues at school.

Now political uproar has also started in the state regarding this incident. Karnataka Bharatiya Janata Party President BY Vijayendra has strongly condemned this.
He has also demanded Minister Mahadevappa to resign, taking moral responsibility.
