Jerusalem. Israeli army brigade commander Colonel Ahsan Daqsa was killed on 20 October, during the ongoing operation against Hamas in northern Gaza. Israeli Army (IDF) spokesman Rear Admiral Daniel Hagari confirmed that Daqsa was hit by an explosive as he left his tank in the Jabaliya area.
Colonel Daqsa, a member of Israel’s Druze community, was appointed commander of the 401st Brigade four months ago. The incident is a major blow to the Israeli military, as he was one of the most senior commanders killed in the year-long Gaza war.
Hagari said another battalion commander and two officers were also injured in the incident. Israel’s defense minister said Daqsa died fighting Hamas terrorists. They came out to inspect the area and were injured by explosives, he said.
