Death of newborn babies, demand for DNA to identify dead bodies raised

Jhansi. The death of 10 innocent children due to fire in the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU) of Maharani Lakshmibai Medical College, Jhansi, has given a pain to the family members that they will never forget throughout their lives. The victim’s family members say that the negligence of the medical administration is the main reason for this incident. Not only this, the family members allege that the hospital administration is not giving them correct information. No correct information is being given about the children who were rescued after the fire. Due to the tags being removed, family members are not able to identify their children. Many people have raised the demand for DNA testing.
During the fire, family members ran to save the children in chaos. Some children have been sent to private hospitals for treatment. But now it is not clear which child belongs to whom. A father alleged that his child was declared dead but the body was not handed over. Family members say that incidents like short circuit had happened in the hospital earlier also, but these incidents were not taken seriously.
After the arson, family members and eyewitnesses have exposed the irregularities in the hospital. He says that the newborn children did not get proper care. The main reason for this is the hospital administration and careless officers. The short circuit incident that happened earlier also was ignored, if it had been rectified then this terrible tragedy would not have happened.
Family members say that the situation regarding the identity of the dead bodies is unclear. The demand for DNA testing has increased so that families can get definite information about their children. There is a demand for a high level investigation into the incident. Action should be taken against responsible officers and employees. The status of fire fighting and safety equipment in the medical college should be reviewed. The administration should provide information to the families of dead and injured children in a transparent manner.
