Recently his duty was imposed in Ambala due to the farmers’ movement. During this time, he died due to suffocation due to tear gas shells.

The police have taken possession of the body and started further action. It is known that today again a tense situation has arisen on the Shambhu border. Police and farmers came face to face. Police fired tear gas shells.

At the same time, a farmer from Gurdaspur died of a heart attack. The deceased farmer has been identified as Gyan Singh. 65-year-old Gyan Singh was a resident of Chachowki village in Gurdaspur district.

He had a bank loan of Rs 3 lakh. He had joined the movement for the waiver of this loan. Gyan Singh suffered a heart attack late evening on 14 February at Shambhu border.

After complaining of chest pain, he was taken to the hospital, where he died during treatment. The post-mortem of the elderly farmer was conducted at the Government Rajindra Hospital in Patiala on Friday.

Farmer leaders demanded compensation
Farmer leader Harvinder Singh said that Gyan Singh had also actively participated in the farmers’ movement in Delhi in the year 2020. He returned home only after the victory of the Morcha.

Gyan Singh was associated with the Farmer-Laborer Struggle Committee for the last 22 years. Gyan Singh had left for Shambhu border from his village on 11 February.

He told that Gyan Singh and his elder brother are very poor. The family has only one fort of land, on which they barely survive by farming.

He demanded Punjab and Central Government to give appropriate compensation to the family. At the same time, farmer leader Sarwan Singh Pandher has also demanded financial assistance of Rs 20 lakh from the government to Gyan Singh’s family and a government job to one person from the family.
