Hanoi. Heavy rains triggered by a typhoon triggered floods in northern Vietnam on Monday that collapsed a bridge and swept away a bus. The natural disaster has claimed 59 lives.
Water levels on several rivers in northern Vietnam are at dangerously low levels. A landslide in the mountainous Cao Bang province swept away a passenger bus carrying 20 people on Monday morning, prompting rescue teams to be deployed but landslides blocked access to the scene. Rescue operations were still underway after a steel bridge collapsed in Phu Tho province on Monday morning. Reports said 10 cars and trucks and two motorcycles fell into the river. Three people were rescued and taken to hospital but 13 others remain missing.
