The unexpected defeat in the results of Chandigarh Mayor elections is not easy for Aam Aadmi Party and Congress.
In this matter both the parties have made up their mind to approach the Supreme Court. Earlier, AAP filed a petition in the Punjab and Haryana High Court.
The court has fixed the next hearing of the case on February 26. Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann said on Wednesday that Aam Aadmi Party and Congress will also approach the Supreme Court against this fraud. He also said that the Chandigarh Mayor election is an example of murder of democracy.
After the results of Chandigarh Mayor elections were announced on Tuesday, Aam Aadmi Party’s Mayor candidate had suffered a crushing defeat. The returning officer had invalidated the votes of 8 councilors of Aam and Congress alliance.
After which BJP’s mayor candidate Manoj Sonkar won by 16-12. On the other hand, Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann accused BJP of cheating in this matter.
He alleged that January 30 is a black day for democracy. Bhagwant Mann said that he is not going to remain silent in this matter. The party will also knock the doors of the Supreme Court.
Before the Supreme Court, on Wednesday itself, a hearing was held in the Punjab and Haryana High Court on the petition related to rigging in the Mayor elections.
On this, the High Court ordered the Chandigarh administration to file its reply within three weeks. The next hearing of the case will be on February 26.
Youth Congress demonstrated outside the Mayor’s office
Meanwhile, Youth Congress members protested outside the Mayor’s office in Chandigarh. Congress and AAP councilors also came out on the streets.
There was a scuffle between the police and the protesters. Youth Congress workers also raised slogans of stop corruption. After some time the police detained the protesters.
