Dengue stings in Sri Lanka, 19 people have died so far – NNSP

Colombo. According to the data released by the National Dengue Control Unit (NDCU), more than 40 thousand dengue cases have been reported in Sri Lanka so far this year. According to media reports, NDCU said that so far 40,109 cases have been reported, in which 19 people have died. The highest number of cases came from the Western Province, which is 42.3 percent of the total cases.
Northern Province is in second place with 12 percent of dengue cases reported, while Central Province has 10.3 percent. In the Western Province, the highest number of 10,027 cases have been reported from Colombo district. Last in the province is Gampaha district, where 4,698 cases have been reported. NDCU has also identified 10 high-risk areas for dengue. According to NDCU, last year a total of more than 88 thousand cases of dengue were reported, in which 57 people died.
