Malaysian police have busted child sexual abuse rackets at 20 Islamic charity homes.
During the raids conducted in two states, the police rescued more than 400 children including 201 girls. Police officials said that during the raids, the team arrested 171 people including clerics.
In fact, earlier this month, a complaint was received before the police that incidents of child abuse, sexual harassment and molestation were taking place in charity homes.
Top police officer in Malaysia, Razaruddin Hussein, revealed the case in a press conference that all these charity homes were operated by Global Ikhwan Services and Business (GISB).
GISB is a Malaysian firm involved in the supermarket business. According to its website, it operates in several countries including Indonesia, Singapore, Egypt, Saudi Arabia, France, Australia and Thailand. GISB did not immediately respond to the sexual abuse allegations but, in a statement, GISB denied separate social media reports that the company had exploited children.
Said that the company is not involved in any illegal activity and will cooperate with the police authorities to resolve the issue.
Malaysian authorities rescued more than 400 children and teenagers on Wednesday, a top police official said. Police found that sexual abuse was being carried out in these charity homes run by a major Islamic business organization linked to a banned religious sect. Police raided these places on Wednesday after receiving complaints and rescued the children.
The age of all the children is between 1 year and 17 years. Razaruddin Hussain said that during the operation, the police arrested 171 people including clerics, hostel supervisors and institute heads. Those arrested include 66 men and 105 women, whose age is between 17 and 64 years.
Sensational revelations by police
Razaruddin said that initial police investigations have found that the rescued children were children of Malaysian GISB employees. They were sent to these children’s homes soon after their birth. After that, they were subjected to various types of abuse.
The victims were allegedly raped by the accused in charity homes and later taught to rape other children. Razaruddin further revealed that the children who resisted were tortured in various ways by placing hot spoons on their hands.
The name of which Islamic organization is coming up
The name of Malaysia’s Al-Arqam religious sect is emerging as the reason behind the dirty scandal going on in these charity homes protected by GISB.
The organisation was banned by the Malaysian government in 1994. GISB has acknowledged links with the organisation, but now describes itself as an Islamic group based on Muslim practices.
