During the hearing of the bail plea of Sanjay Roy, accused of rape and murder of a female doctor at RG Kar Hospital, the CBI lawyer did not appear in the court.
When there was a delay, the judge got upset and asked if the accused should be granted bail. The CBI lawyer arrived in court 50 minutes late.
Additional Chief Judicial Magistrate Pamela Gupta was informed by an official at 4.10 pm that the public prosecutor was late. The judge said if the lawyer was not present, she should grant bail to Roy.
According to the Times of India report, when lawyer Deepak Poria did not reach the court even after waiting for some time, the judge asked a CBI officer to call him.
He said, it is 4:20 and this is very unfortunate. The assistant investigating officer in the case went out of the court and returned after about 15 minutes.
He said, the lawyer is on the way. Poriya came to the courtroom at around 5 pm. After this, defense lawyer Kavita Sarkar asked why the lawyer who had come for the hearing on August 23 did not appear on behalf of the CBI.
Poria said that he is a full-time CBI lawyer. He opposed Roy’s bail plea in the court without giving any reason.
After this, the magistrate sent Sanjay Roy to judicial custody till September 20. Roy’s lawyer said that there is no criminal case pending against him.
He also said that the CBI has not been able to present any solid evidence in the court so far, that is why it is hesitant to argue in the court. In such a situation, Sanjay Roy should be granted bail.
Let us tell you that at present, Sanjay Roy alone has been made accused in the case of murder of female doctor in RG Kar Hospital on August 9.
Sanjay Roy’s judicial custody has been extended again after the investigation was handed over to the CBI. Earlier on August 23, the CBI had sought custody of Sanjay Roy.
However, the CBI did not mention gangrape in the court. The victim’s parents say that more than one person was involved in this crime.
