Allahabad High Court has sought clarification from the Home Ministry on the Indian citizenship of Congress leader Rahul Gandhi.
In the order issued on November 25, the court said that the Central Government should inform the court in this regard by December 19.
This decision has come on a petition in which a person has claimed that Rahul Gandhi has British citizenship. The next hearing of the case is also scheduled to be held on December 19.
Deputy Solicitor General SB Pandey, appearing for the Center in the case, informed the court that the ministry has received the representation given by the petitioner. Now action is being taken on this.
Petitioner S Vignesh claims that Rahul Gandhi has British citizenship. He says that he has investigated this matter in detail.
He has gone through a lot of information related to this. Vignesh also says that he has seen top-secret emails of the British government.
The petitioner informed the Court that he has already made two representations to the competent authority in the Union Home Ministry for cancellation of Indian citizenship of Rahul Gandhi.
After this, the court directed the ASG to take instructions on the report of the Home Ministry.
The PIL further alleges that in the mail, the UK government has indicated that it has records of Rahul Gandhi’s British citizenship.
But declined to disclose details.
Because, such personal data is protected in accordance with the UK Data Protection Act, 2018. The petition states that the British government cannot provide information until it receives a letter signed by Rahul Gandhi. Vignesh has also demanded a CBI inquiry into the matter.
