The political struggle for Baramati, considered the stronghold of the Pawar family in Maharashtra, seems to be intensifying.
Deputy Chief Minister Ajit Pawar, who joined the Bharatiya Janata Party and Shiv Sena government, has appealed to the people of the area not to get trapped in ’emotional appeals’.
He has also promised that if the public votes for his candidate, then the pace of development will be increased with the help of the Centre. At present, Supriya Sule, daughter of Nationalist Congress Party chief Sharad Pawar, is the MP from here.
Taking aim at Sharad Pawar without taking his name, Deputy Chief Minister Pawar said, ‘I don’t know when some people will stop. There may be an emotional appeal that this will be the last election. Don’t know which last election will be held.
He has appealed to the public not to vote due to emotions. He also promised that he will soon declare the Mahayuti candidate.
Pawar said at a public meeting in Baramati in Pune district, ‘You listened to a senior for so many years. Now listen to me and vote for the Lok Sabha candidate I am going to field. I can then tell Prime Minister Narendra Modi that people have voted for my candidate. Don’t forget who came to help you when you were in trouble.’
Baramati MLA Ajit Pawar also said that ‘if you want to do good work, you should be ready to accept some criticism for it.’
He informed that many development projects are going on in Indapur, Daund, Purandar, Khadakwasla and Baramati. These include projects like roads, water supply, shopping complexes, markets.
Ajit Pawar had broken the NCP in July last year and joined the Eknath Shinde government along with eight MLAs. Ajit Pawar has since consistently justified his rebellion by saying that seniors should have given way to the next generation. This gesture of Ajit Pawar was indirectly towards Sharad Pawar.
