Taking a historic decision aimed at empowering women and enhancing their role in national security, the Union Home Ministry has approved the formation of the first women battalion of the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF).
A CISF spokesperson said on Tuesday that the force has been the preferred choice for women who want to serve the country in the Central Armed Police Forces and their share in the force is more than 7 per cent.
The formation of the Mahila Battalion will encourage ambitious young women across the country to join the force and serve the country. This will give a new identity to women in the force.
CISF Headquarters has started preparations for initial recruitment, training and selection of location for the headquarters of the new battalion.
The training is being specifically designed to create an excellent battalion capable of performing multifaceted roles as commandos in VIP security and security of airports, Delhi Metro Rail duties.
At the 53rd Raising Day celebrations of CISF, it was proposed to form all-women battalions in the force in line with the directive of the Union Home Minister.
