Dhaka. The interim government of Bangladesh has given strict instructions regarding Durga Puja of the Hindu community. Yunus Sarkar said that activities related to Durga Puja, especially playing music, should be stopped five minutes before Azan and Namaz. Now there is widespread opposition to this Talibani order of the Bangladesh government. Home Affairs Advisor Lieutenant General (Retired) MD Jahangir Alam Chowdhury said that Puja committees have been asked to keep musical instruments and sound systems off. After this, all the music systems and loudspeakers playing in the pandals should remain off till the Namaz is going on in the mosques.
He made these announcements after a meeting on the law and order situation in the country ahead of Durga Puja, the Hindu community’s main festival in the country. Chowdhury said a total of 32,666 puja mandaps will be built across the country this year. According to reports, 157 of these mandaps are in Dhaka South city and 88 in North city corporations. Last year the number of puja mandaps was 33,431, he said, adding that this year the number will exceed that. Chowdhury also assured security from the making of idols to the festivities. “We have discussed how to ensure round-the-clock security at puja mandaps,” he said.
