Translation of decisions in regional languages- Showing his love for Hindi and other regional languages, he decided to get the Supreme Court decisions translated into Hindi, Punjabi, Tamil and other languages.
Decision on the issue of privacy and Aadhaar
In 2017, the Constitution Bench of 9 judges of the Supreme Court, while giving its verdict on the issue related to privacy and Aadhaar, gave ‘privacy’ as a fundamental right.
Justice Chandrachud was not only included in this bench, but he also wrote this historic decision. Even a few months later, the Constitution Bench upheld the constitutionality of Aadhaar with a majority of 41.
A five-judge Constitution bench led by CJI Chandrachud struck down the central government’s electoral bond scheme to curb black money and transparency in politics, terming it as unconstitutional just months before the general elections.
Apart from this, orders were also given to make public the names of the companies giving donations to political parties. The Center had launched the electoral bond scheme in 2018.
Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi dispute
In November 2019, the Constitution bench of 5 judges of the Supreme Court had given its decision regarding the decades-long Ayodhya Ram Janmabhoomi dispute.
Justice D.Y. was present in the constitution bench that gave the verdict. Chandrachud was also included. The nearly 200-year-old controversy became a strong identity of Hindutva in the 1980s. The eyes of the whole world were fixed on this.
Decision on rights between Delhi and Center
The Constitution Bench of 5 judges had given the decision on the ongoing dispute regarding rights between Delhi Government and the Centre. The judgment said that the elected government of Delhi cannot be deprived of legislative and executive powers.
The bench had given control to the Delhi government over administrative services to the elected government of Delhi.
Article 370 justified Centre’s decision
