Kolkata. ED has taken a big action against the former principal of RG Kar Medical College. It is reported that ED raided Sandeep Ghosh’s residence on Friday and the search continued till the time of writing the news. Apart from this, officials have raided many places in the state. ED has taken this action under PMLA case. ED has raided 5-6 places related to Ghosh and his close ones. Also, ED officials have reached the house of Prasun Chatterjee, the data entry operator of the hospital. CBI had arrested Ghosh on Tuesday itself on charges of irregularities during his tenure. He has been sent to 8 days of police custody. Meanwhile, the West Bengal government has suspended him. Before being arrested by the CBI, Ghosh was questioned for 15 days at the agency’s Salt Lake office. Then the CBI had questioned him in connection with the rape and murder case of a trainee doctor. Also, questions were asked about financial irregularities in the hospital. Ghosh also had to undergo polygraph test twice. ED is also investigating Ghosh on charges of money laundering.
Ghosh has moved the Supreme Court against the Calcutta High Court order rejecting his plea to be impleaded as a party in a petition alleging financial irregularities at the institute during his tenure. The high court had on August 23 ordered transfer of the probe into alleged financial irregularities from the Special Investigation Team (SIT) constituted by the state government to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI).The August 23 order of the high court came on a plea by the hospital’s former deputy superintendent Akhtar Ali, who had sought an Enforcement Directorate probe into alleged financial malpractices at the hospital during Ghosh’s tenure. The high court had also rejected Ghosh’s request to be impleaded as a party in the petition, saying he was not a “necessary party” in the case. “In view of the clear nexus between the above allegations and the incident and considering that the investigation of the case (rape and murder of the doctor in the hospital) has already been handed over to the CBI, this case should also be handed over to the CBI to ensure a comprehensive and fair investigation,” it had said in its order.
