On Wednesday, the Central Government gave a big gift to the elderly people of the country.
Now, under Ayushman Bharat Pradhan Mantri Jan Arogya Yojana, citizens aged 70 years and above will get health coverage.
The special thing is that the income of the beneficiaries of the scheme will not affect the benefits they receive. PM Modi had announced this in April itself.
Elderly people will get these benefits in AB PM-JAY
Elderly people of 70 years and above irrespective of their socio-economic status will be able to avail the benefits of AB PM-JAY. New cards will be issued for this.
Senior citizens aged 70 years and above from families already covered under the scheme will get an additional top-up cover of up to ₹5 lakh per year for themselves (which they will not have to share with other family members who are below 70 years of age).
How to apply for Ayushman Card
To avail the benefits of this scheme, citizens have to apply for Ayushman card under PM-JAY. This can also be done with the help of online portal, Ayushman Mitra app.
However, after applying, you will have to wait a little to get approval. After the application process is completed, citizens will get a health card. Along with this, a receipt will also be given for free treatment.
Which documents and what is the procedure
To apply online for getting Ayushman card under PM-JAY, users will have to provide documents like Aadhar card, domicile certificate, photo etc. After checking the eligibility, you can start the process of applying online on the website pmjay.gov.in.
Go to the ABHA Registration button on the website and enter the Aadhaar card details.
To verify Aadhaar, enter the OTP received on your mobile number.
Wait for the application to be accepted. After this you will be able to download the Ayushman card. You can take a printout of it and avail the benefit of cashless service in the hospital.
Will you be able to avail the benefit even if you have private insurance?
PIB i.e. Press Information Bureau has informed that those already availing benefits of other public health insurance schemes like Central Government Health Scheme (CGHS), Ex-Servicemen Contributory Health Scheme (ECHS), Ayushman Central Armed Police Force (CAPF) can choose their existing scheme or opt for AB PM-JAY. It has been informed that citizens aged 70 years and above who are under private health insurance policies or Employees State Insurance Scheme will be eligible to avail benefits under AB PM-JAY.
If there is more than one elderly person in the house
Union Minister Ashwini Vaishnav has already given information about such a situation. He said, ‘If there are two senior citizen (70 years or above) members in a family, then the coverage of Rs 5 lakh will be shared between both of them…’ The aim of this scheme is to provide the benefit of free health insurance cover of Rs 5 lakh on family basis to about 4.5 crore families having 6 crore senior citizens.

According to the official website of the National Health Authority, under PM-JAY, beneficiaries get several benefits from before hospitalization till 15 days after discharge after treatment.

– Non-intensive and intensive care services
– Lab tests
– Accommodation facility
– Food facility
– Care of complications arising during treatment
– Follow-up care for 15 days after discharge from the hospital
Is there any payment required to join the PM-JAY scheme?
