New Delhi. The Election Commission will visit Jammu and Kashmir for two days regarding the upcoming assembly elections. The delegation will reach Srinagar on Thursday. The Election Commission will have a meeting with regional and national parties at 11:15 am. After that, there will be a meeting with police officials. The Election Commission will hold a press conference on August 9 at 2:30 pm. In June this year, the Election Commission had issued orders to update the voter list in Jammu and Kashmir including Maharashtra, Jharkhand, Haryana. A deadline of August 20 was given to complete this work.
In December 2023, the Supreme Court had directed to conduct elections in the Union Territory by 30 September 2024. Along with this, the court had said that the state status of Jammu and Kashmir should also be restored soon.
