Now Japan has also entered the China-Taiwan dispute.
Recently, the Japanese warship ‘Sazanami’ has entered the disputed area Taiwan Strait for the first time, due to which new tension has increased.
Japan says this step has been taken to strengthen its naval rights in international waters.
This is the first time since World War II i.e. 1944 that a Japanese warship has entered the Taiwan Strait.
On Thursday, the Sajanami warship entered the Taiwan Strait from the East China Sea, Al Jazeera reported.
Military ships of Australia and New Zealand were also seen in this 180 kilometer long strait last Wednesday. The thing to note is that these three countries are known as close to America and anti-China in international diplomacy.
Last week, a Chinese aircraft carrier and two other warships entered Japan’s territorial waters near Taiwan. Earlier, in August, a surveillance plane of the Chinese Air Force had entered Japan’s airspace.
Tokyo protested in both these cases, while Beijing said that these steps were under international law. In such a situation, this recent step of Japan is being considered as a response to China’s increasing military activities.
Earlier, in May, China had started military exercises in the border areas of Taiwan without any prior notice, which again created an atmosphere of tension in the region.
Over the past two years, China has repeatedly violated Taiwan’s water and air borders through the Taiwan Strait.
Tension also increased after US Congress Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s visit to Taiwan in August 2022, after which Chinese war planes started continuously violating Taiwan’s airspace.
Amid the China-Taiwan crisis, some US Navy warships have also entered the Taiwan Strait.
Although both sides had recently attempted to calm the situation somewhat, tensions have flared up again following the victory of the staunchly anti-China Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) in Taiwan’s general elections this year.
China claims that Taiwan is its rebellious land and is committed to incorporating Taiwan into its mainland by using force if necessary. On the other hand, the current government of Taiwan is adamant on its stand.
