Israel has once again hinted at a deadly attack on Lebanon.
The Israeli military warned people in towns and villages in southern Lebanon to evacuate. This area is located north of the buffer zone declared by the United Nations after the 2006 war.
The warning signals a possible expansion of Israeli military action in southern Lebanon, which until now has been limited to border areas.
Israel asked people to leave the provincial capital Nabatieh. He has also asked other communities living north of the Litani River to leave the place.
At the same time, the Lebanese Red Cross says that four of its health workers were injured in an Israeli attack while evacuating injured people from the south.
A Lebanese Army soldier has also died. The team, which also included Lebanese soldiers, was targeted on Thursday near the village of Taybeh.
It claimed that the attack occurred despite a coordinated operation by UN peacekeepers. However, the Israeli army has not made any immediate comment in this matter.
Attack targeting Beirut building, 7 killed
The Lebanese army said a Lebanese soldier was killed in Israeli firing on a military post in the southern town of Bint Jbeil.
Additionally, Israel launched an airstrike targeting a building in central Beirut late on Wednesday, killing 7 people.
These people have been described as members of Hezbollah. Israel has been bombing areas of the country where the militant group Hezbollah has a strong presence since late September. However, the central area of the capital Beirut has rarely been targeted.
8 Israeli soldiers killed in clash with Hezbollah
There was no warning before the attack late Wednesday, which targeted a building in central Beirut. This building is not far from the United Nations Headquarters, the Prime Minister’s Office and the Parliament.
Meanwhile, Hezbollah’s civil defense unit said that 7 of its members had been killed. The attack comes after 8 Israeli soldiers were killed in clashes with Hezbollah in southern Lebanon.
Residents in Beirut complained of a sulfur-like smell after the attack, while Lebanon’s official National News Agency accused Israel of using phosphorus bombs without providing any evidence.
200 Hezbollah targets attacked in Lebanon
The Israeli military said it had struck about 200 Hezbollah targets in Lebanon, including weapons storage facilities and observation posts. It said 15 Hezbollah fighters were killed in the attacks.
Hezbollah said its fighters detonated a roadside bomb as Israeli forces entered the Lebanese border village of Maroun al-Ras, killing and wounding several soldiers. The claims made by both sides could not be independently verified.
