New Delhi . The central government has spent 25000 crore rupees in the last 10 years to improve the drainage system in cities. Despite this, flooding has become a common sight in cities every year. Every city gets flooded during the rains. Due to which the district administration has to make a lot of efforts to make the general public safe in the cities. There is huge loss due to flooding.
In the budget session of the Parliament, Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar gave information about the amount released by the Central Government for improving the drainage system of the country. He said that currently the drainage systems of cities are built according to half an inch of rain in 1 hour. When there is more rain than this in the urban area, then only the situation of waterlogging occurs in the cities. Giving information, he said, the current drainage system does not have the capacity to withstand so much rain.
It is noteworthy that this year, more than 100 cities were flooded due to rain. Delhi, Mumbai, Hyderabad, Chennai, Bengaluru metropolises witnessed flood-like conditions due to waterlogging. The Union Urban Minister said that in view of the current situation, the government has sought suggestions from MPs to deal with this problem. After receiving suggestions, the government will prepare a new plan and implement it.
