Due to the unwavering faith of pilgrims from India and abroad in Baba Kedarnath, the devotees are not stopping even after the accidents occurring on the travel route.
From Sonprayag to Kedarnath Dham, the fear of disaster is outweighing the trust of devotees.
Due to which, despite the accident in Sonprayag on Monday evening, around 2500 pilgrims left for Kedarnath on Tuesday.
The temple of Lord Kedarnath situated at a height of 11700 feet in the Himalayas is the center of faith for crores of Hindus. Even in the most difficult situations, devotees of Baba have been coming here for darshan.
Since the opening of the doors of Kedarnath Dham on May 10 this year, four major incidents of landslides and falling of stones from the hill have occurred till now in which 19 pilgrims have died.
20 pilgrims are missing and 11 are injured. Despite this, there has been no decrease in the faith of the pilgrims. Last year in 2023, about 19 lakh pilgrims had reached Kedarnath for darshan during the entire Yatra season.
This year so far, more than 11.17 lakh pilgrims have visited Baba Kedar.
About 5000 pilgrims reached Kedarnath Dham yesterday after overcoming rain and many obstacles. While on Tuesday also about 2500 pilgrims left for Kedarnath from Sonprayag.
Pilgrims say that Baba Kedar is the caretaker of everyone.
Travelling should be done with caution. It is wise to stop at safe places as soon as it rains.
SDM Shyam Singh Rana said that on Monday evening at 6:30 pm, the movement from Gaurikund to Sonprayag was closed but the said passengers had left from here before that. Due to which this accident happened on the way.
Details of incidents that happened in Rudraprayag district in the year 2024
,19 June: 3 killed and 6 injured in a landslide at Chidbasa on the Kedarnath trekking route.
-On August 22, 4 people died in a landslide near Phata on Kedarnath Highway.
-On July 31, 7 died, 2 injured and 20 missing due to heavy rainfall in Lyncholi in Kedarnath.
-On September 9, 5 travellers died and three people were injured in a landslide in Sonprayag.
SP stops movement after 5 p.m.
On Tuesday, the newly appointed Superintendent of Police Akshay Konde visited the site of the tragic accident that took place in Sonprayag on Monday evening. During this, he reviewed the causes of the incident.
Also, keeping in mind the safety of the passengers, movement from Sonprayag to Gaurikund and Gaurikund to Sonprayag has been restricted after 5 pm. After inspecting Kedarnath, the Superintendent of Police reached the Sonprayag incident spot directly on Tuesday. Where he inspected the spot.
Pilgrims lost their lives after the landslide in Kedarnath two days ago. After the landslide on the Yatra route, the district administration and police force including SDRF started relief and rescue operations.
The injured were rescued and taken to the hospital. Relief and rescue work continued for several hours.

The administration has been constantly informing the pilgrims about the rain and road conditions. The pilgrims should travel cautiously so that no accident of any kind occurs. The staff deployed at the halts have been instructed not to allow the pilgrims to travel in bad weather. Many times the stubbornness of the devotees proves to be costly.
