After India and America, now Britain has also warned its citizens to leave the country immediately. On Saturday, the British government issued a warning to its citizens in Lebanon.
It advised people to leave the country immediately because of fears of a possible war between Israel and Hezbollah and a wider regional conflict.
The British Foreign Office in a statement urged its citizens to leave Lebanon “while commercial options are available”.
Britain has hinted flights to Lebanon could be suspended if war breaks out. So get out of there now. Foreign Secretary David Lammy said: “Tensions are high and the situation could deteriorate rapidly.
“While we are working around the clock to strengthen our consular presence in Lebanon, my message to British nationals there is clear – leave (Lebanon) immediately.”
The British advisory has come at a time when heavy firing has started between Lebanon and Israel. Firing is taking place between Hezbollah and the Israeli army.
This included heavy machine gun fire, artillery and missile shelling as well as air strikes.
Israeli drones and warplanes carried out nine raids on seven towns and villages in southern Lebanon and three attacks on the areas of Hermel, al-Qasr and the Matraba crossing on the Lebanese-Syrian border in the east of the country.
India issues ‘strict advisory’ to its citizens to leave Lebanon
Earlier, the Indian Embassy in Lebanon’s capital Beirut on Thursday issued a “strict advisory” to Indian citizens not to travel to the West Asian country till further notice and to leave the country in view of rising tensions between Israel and the extremist group Hezbollah.
There has been a conflict between Israeli soldiers and Hezbollah on the Israel-Lebanon border since October 8 last year.
Israel targeted Hezbollah’s top military commander Fouad Shukur in southern Beirut on Tuesday. Later, Israel confirmed that it had killed Shukur.
Israel claims that Shukur was involved in the weekend rocket attack in its occupied Golan Heights region that killed 12 youths. The Indian Embassy in Beirut said in an advisory issued on the social media platform ‘X’, “In view of the recent developments in the region and potential threats, Indian nationals are strongly advised not to travel to Lebanon until further notice.”
“All Indian nationals are strongly advised to leave Lebanon,” it said.
In an advisory issued on ‘X’, the Indian Embassy said, “People staying here for any reason are advised to exercise caution, restrict their movements and stay in touch with the Indian Embassy in Beirut through their email or emergency phone number +96176860128.”
The embassy issued the advisory following the killing of Hamas leader Ismail Haniya in Iran on Wednesday and the killing of Shokur by Israel in Beirut a few hours earlier.
Due to these two incidents the situation in West Asia has become more dangerous.
