The new year has started with good news for the Congress Party.
The party’s crowdfunding campaign is going on at a fast pace. Congress on Tuesday said it has collected Rs 10 crore in the last two weeks as part of its campaign to raise funds from the people ahead of the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.
Congress Treasurer Ajay Maken said that the party had started an online donation campaign on December 18 and has collected Rs 10 crore with the entry of the new year.
Maken posted on social media platform ‘X’, “New year, new achievement. We have collected more than Rs 10 crore in just two weeks.
As 2024 approaches, we at the Indian National Congress are thrilled to share two significant achievements: Celebrating 138 Years of Service: Our journey in the service of our great nation now spans 138 remarkable years.
Unprecedented Success in Online Donation: Our online donation campaign has concluded its second week with an unprecedented achievement.
We have raised Rs 10 crore.” He said, ”Thank you from the bottom of our hearts: to the millions of people who have joined us in this journey, for your generosity, for your support. 2,48,929 valid transfer requests have been received in two weeks. Your support is the foundation of our success.
Appealing to those who have not yet donated to the party, Maken said, “Appeal for contributions: Haven’t contributed yet? It is time to strengthen our democracy.
Join our campaign. Already contributed? Again consider contributing as per your capacity. Every contribution, whether big or small, will be a step towards strengthening the country.
The Congress Treasurer said, “Remember, the country needs you, the National Congress needs you. Your support will fuel the mission and empower us to keep moving forward. Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge started a campaign to collect donations from people under the name ‘Donate for Desh’ on December 18 and donated Rs 1.38 lakh to the party on the first day.
The aim of this campaign is to raise resources for the party for the Lok Sabha elections to be held this year.
The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), however, has criticized the Congress campaign and alleged that “this is yet another ploy to embezzle public money and make Gandhi rich.”
The ruling party at the Center also pointed to the huge amount of cash found in recent Income Tax Department raids at the hideout of a Congress-affiliated MP.
