After the grand success of Chandrayaan-3, the Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is preparing for the historic Gaganyaan mission.
Next year ISRO will send three astronauts into space in the Gaganyaan mission. ISRO has given great news for the Gaganyaan mission.
Before Gaganyaan, there are plans to send the human robot Vyommitra into space by September this year. ISRO says that the design of the robot’s skull has been prepared.
ISRO has prepared the female robot Vyommitra for the Gaganyaan mission. It will work like an astronaut. It will read the crew module of Gaganyaan and understand the necessary instructions.
Along with this, it will communicate with the scientists and mission team present at the ground station. The results of this unmanned mission will open the way for humans to go into space.
ISRO’s Thiruvananthapuram team has designed the skull for the female robot Vyommitra. It weighs 800 grams and measures 200 mm x 220 mm.
The skull of the human robot Vyommitra is made of high-strength aluminum alloy to withstand the pressure and vibration in space. Vyommitra will resemble the upper part of the human body, with human-like arms, face and neck.
It will be equipped with sensors to perform human-like tasks and assess the effects of space travel.
“Vyommitra is like a demi-human flying spacecraft in the Gaganyaan mission. Its ground qualification testing has been completed. The flight system has been built and acceptance testing is in progress,” IISU director Padma Kumar ES told The Indian Express.
Why is ISRO sending Vyommitra to space first?
ISRO’s team is sending Vyommitra to space before sending a human to space in the Gaganyaan mission. Preparations are on to send the human robot to space by September 2024.
The purpose behind this is to collect important data on the effects of space travel on the human body. This will help scientists design space capsules for the safe and comfortable flight of astronauts next year.
It is worth noting that the Gaganyaan mission being prepared to send humans into space is ISRO’s first attempt. But before that, ISRO will launch two unmanned missions, Gaganyaan-1 (G1) and Gaganyaan-2 (G2).
Both these missions will be launched by the end of this year.
After this, in the Gaganyaan mission next year, three Indian astronauts will be sent into space about 400 km from the Earth’s surface for three days.
