Growing partnership between India and Italy in G-20, PM Modi and PM Meloni hold important meeting

Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who arrived in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, met leaders from across the world, the West and the Global South at the G-20 summit. They have strengthened ties in areas ranging from defense and “futuristic” endeavors to education and health. PM Modi also held formal meetings and informal meetings on Monday in the run-up to the G20 summit.

Apart from this, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also held a bilateral meeting with Italian Prime Minister Meloni. The delegation comprising both the heads of state and External Affairs Minister Jaishankar discussed important bilateral issues related to India and Italy.

PM’s special conversation with the United Nations Secretary General
PM Modi had a brief conversation with UN Secretary General Antonio Guterres. Gita Gopinath, First Deputy Managing Director of the International Monetary Fund, posted on Twitter that in their meeting, PM Modi mentioned India’s many successes in reducing hunger and poverty. Before the summit, PM Modi had a brief conversation with US President Joe Biden and he was sitting next to him.

PM Modi also held formal meetings with Indonesian President Prabowo Subianto. “This year is special as we are completing 75 years of India-Indonesia diplomatic relations. Our conversation was focused on this,” the Prime Minister wrote on Twitter after the meeting.

Conversation with Macron regarding future planning
Relations improved in commerce, security, healthcare, pharmaceuticals and other sectors. PM Modi also expressed immense happiness in meeting his friend French President Emmanuel Macron. During this, ways of working together in areas like space, energy and AI were discussed between the two leaders.

“We talked about how India and France will continue to work together in space, energy, AI and other such futuristic areas. Our countries will also work together to enhance people-to-people connections,” he wrote on Twitter.
