The High Court has given a big blow to Karnataka Chief Minister Siddaramaiah in the MUDA land scam case. The court has rejected his petition challenging the Governor’s order in this case. The court said that the facts presented in the petition need further investigation. During the hearing, the court remarked that the Governor is competent to give prosecution sanction.
Let us tell you that Chief Minister Siddaramaiah has filed a petition in the High Court challenging the order of Governor Thaawarchand Gehlot to initiate legal proceedings against him. This case is related to the land scam related to the Mysore Urban Development Authority.
Is it MUDA?
The Mysore Urban Development Authority (MUDA) is a state-level development agency in Karnataka. The primary objective of this agency is to provide affordable housing to people. MUDA has launched a scheme for individuals who have lost their land during urban development activities. Under this scheme, known as 50:50, those who have lost their land will get 50 per cent of the developed land. It was first implemented in 2009. However, in 2020, the then BJP government discontinued the scheme.
What are the allegations against Siddaramaiah’s family?
It is alleged that even after the scheme was discontinued, MUDA continued to acquire and allot land under the 50:50 scheme. It is claimed that this benefited Chief Minister Siddaramaiah’s wife Parvati. Specifically, 3 acres and 16 guntas of land belonging to the Chief Minister’s wife was acquired by MUDA.
