Colombo. People’s problems have increased due to heavy rains in India’s neighboring country Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Center (DMC) said three people had died as of Monday morning due to poor weather conditions.
According to the report, DMC said that heavy rains started in the country from October 7 and till Monday morning, 134,484 people from 34,492 families have been displaced due to rain-triggered disasters in 12 districts across the country. The Sri Lankan Irrigation Department has warned of floods at seven places on five main rivers. According to the Sri Lanka Meteorological Department, heavy rainfall of more than 100 mm is expected at some places in Sabaragamuwa, North-Western and Northern Provinces and Galle and Matara districts.
Earlier there was news that more than 22 thousand people have been displaced due to rain related incidents in Sri Lanka. Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Center (DMC) had said that from October 7 to Saturday morning, 22 thousand 64 people from 5 thousand 348 families have been displaced in 11 districts of the country. According to Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Centre, one person drowned in a water-logged paddy field. Let us tell you that in June this year, at least 10 people had died in flood and rain related incidents in Sri Lanka and six others were reported missing. Schools were also closed due to flooding caused by heavy rains.
