New Delhi . Heavy rains have wreaked havoc in Andhra Pradesh, leading to severe flooding in several areas of the state. The incessant downpour has inundated low-lying areas, disrupted transport and displaced thousands of residents. With rivers overflowing and water levels rising, authorities are on high alert and are working tirelessly to evacuate affected communities and provide relief measures.
The death toll in the unprecedented torrential rains and floods in Andhra has risen to 32 and the number of people evacuated to relief camps has risen to 45,369. NTR district with Vijayawada being the worst-hit reported 24 deaths, followed by Guntur (seven) and Palnadu (one).
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast light to moderate rains in many areas of north coastal Andhra from September 4 to 8.
Chief Minister Chandrababu Naidu held an important meeting
Earlier, Chief Minister N Chandrababu Naidu held a meeting with bankers and insurance company representatives and requested them to settle insurance claims on damaged vehicles and others within 10 days and resolve them within a fortnight. He also requested the banks to reschedule the loans of flood victims as many of them have lost everything and are on the verge of starting their lives afresh.
