Amidst increasing tension, India has once again canceled the consular camp in Canada.
The Consulate has said that despite increasing incidents of violence against Hindus, Canada is completely failing to provide security to Hindus.
This is the second time that consular camps have been cancelled. Earlier, the Consulate General of India in Toronto, Canada had decided to cancel some camps after security agencies expressed inability to provide security to Indian camp organisers.
Now the Hindu Temple of Ontario Province has announced the cancellation of the Consulate Camp to be organized on Sunday. Vaishno Devi Temple in Oakville was to host the camp organized by the Consulate General of India on November 23.
Life certificates were to be distributed to pensioners in this camp. However, on Thursday, the executive committee of the temple issued a statement announcing the cancellation of the camp.
It said the camp had been canceled after discussions with Halton Regional Police Service (HRPS) Chief Roger Wilkie.
Based on credible intelligence the event has been canceled to ensure the safety of all participants including Consulate staff, community members and the general public.
The Consulate said that after conducting a security assessment at the current time, police have concluded that the event cannot be held in a manner that would put staff at risk.
“We are deeply saddened that our seniors and community members are unable to safely access these essential services in places of worship or public institutions,” the statement said.
“We are concerned about the safety of our community, especially our elderly members.”
Meanwhile, terrorist organization Sikh for Justice had threatened on Wednesday that it will demonstrate at Oakville Temple on Sunday and Lakshmi Narayan Temple in Toronto on November 30 to protest the presence of Indian officials in these camps.
On the matter, Khalistani Gurpatwant Pannu said, “SFJ’s protest is to target Indian diplomats and not places of worship.”
There has been tension over organizing the camps since the Hindu Sabha temple in Brampton was violently attacked by pro-Khalistan elements on November 3.
Following this, protests were held outside a Gurudwara in Malton. A rally was also taken out outside the Hindu Sabha temple on 4 November.
However, these incidents led to incidents of violence and so far many people have been arrested in this regard.
