Vivek Ramaswamy, the Republican Party candidate in the US presidential election, was asked about his Hindu religion.
On this he gave such a reply that he stopped speaking. At a CNN townhall, Ghani Mitchell, an Iowa voter, asked, “How do you respond to people who claim that you can’t be our president because your religion does not match the religion on which our Founders founded our country? Was it based on?”
To this candidate Ramaswamy replied that I am a Hindu. I will not fake my identity. Hinduism and Christianity share similar values. He further added, “Based on my religious beliefs, I understand that every person is here for a reason and it is our moral obligation to fulfill that reason because God lives within each of us, even if God is through us. Work in different ways, we are all the same.”
He further said that my upbringing was quite traditional. My parents taught me that marriages are sacred, families are the cornerstone of society, that abstinence before marriage is a viable option when things don’t work out, that adultery is wrong.
To enjoy the pleasures of life one has to sacrifice something. Vivek Ramaswamy, 38, is a native of southwest Ohio. His parents migrated to America from Kerala.
Vivek Ramaswamy also said at the townhall that he aligns some of the core tenets of his Hindu faith with Judeo-Christian values but that he would not be the best president to spread Christianity.
When Ramaswamy was asked about the perception of those who believe that he cannot become their President because his religion is not the one on which our ancestors had carried it forward. Ramaswami replied, “He politely rejects this.”
He said he connects some of the core tenets of his Hindu faith with the Judeo-Christian values of many Iowa voters. However, he also acknowledged that he would not be the best president to spread Christianity.
