CJI DY Chandrachud is very strict about discipline in the court.
He does not tolerate any kind of negligence. He also deals strictly with those who break decorum. Something similar happened in the Supreme Court on Thursday.
A lawyer started asking for some changes in the court order. Till that time the judges had not even signed this order.
CJI DY Chandrachud got furious at the lawyer regarding this matter. He reprimanded the lawyer and asked how he got the courage.
The lawyer had filed a petition in an arbitration case. The hearing of this case was going on in the bench headed by CJI DY Chandrachud.
The court had dictated the order, but the judges had not signed it. Then the lawyers reached before the bench and started demanding some changes in the order.
Seeing them doing this, CJI DY Chandrachud asked how did you know what order has been given, because the judges have not even signed it yet. This has just been noted by the Court Master.
CJI DY Chandrachud got furious at what the lawyer said in response to this question. The lawyer said that he has received information from the Court Master as to what is said in the order.
On hearing this, the CJI said, ‘How dare you talk to the Court Master and see what has been dictated.’ He said that the final decision is the one which is signed by the judges. This kind of joke won’t work on me.
CJI further said that this is not right. He said angrily that tomorrow you will come to my house and ask my personal secretary what I am doing? What has happened to the lawyers?
He further said that now I do not have much tenure left. But I will be the boss here till my last day. It is noteworthy that the CJI is going to retire on November 10.
