Now the interference of AI technology (Artificial Intelligence) has increased significantly in most areas of life.
Many countries have effectively implemented it as a part of everyday life. Can AI dominate or trick our minds? Recent research in the US has yielded surprising results.
Research shows that AI can also change our thinking. It can also change theories that have been running in our mind for years.
The research covered topics such as the fact that humans landed on the moon was a hoax or that corona vaccines have microchips installed in them. Surprisingly, people easily believed the AI’s deception.
The study, led by Dr. Thomas Costello, an associate professor at American University, showed that AI can actually boost our critical thinking on a topic more effectively and disprove fact-based counter-arguments.
2190 people were included in this experiment under the chairmanship of Costello. Most of these people believed the truth when the AI misled them.
How AI overpowered the brain
The participants were put into three rounds of interaction with the AI. After this, they were forced to change their age-old thinking.
Many people, after being misled by the AI, accepted that their perception or thinking about a subject was wrong. This change was seen to be minimal. However, the influence of the AI’s words continued to dominate their minds for at least two months.
“Of those who trusted the AI at the start of the experiment, about one-quarter later came out without that trust. In most cases, the AI only made people slightly more skeptical and uncertain. However, a select few managed to believe that the AI was trying to trick them,” Dr Costello said.
AI will remove propaganda on social media
Such research suggests that AI can play an important role in dispelling misinformation on social media.
Professor Sander van der Linden of the University of Cambridge raised questions about whether people would eagerly participate with AI in real-life situations? This is still the big question. This research also strengthens the conspiracy that if AI is used for wrong and hallucinations, it can prove to be dangerous.
