Foreign Minister S Jaishankar has reacted amid the ongoing tension with Maldives.

He says that it cannot be guaranteed that every country will agree with India all the time. Three Deputy Ministers of Maldives Government had made objectionable comments regarding Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to Lakshadweep.

After this, now Maldivian President Mohammed Muizzu has also given an ultimatum for the withdrawal of Indian soldiers.

During a program organized in Nagpur, Jaishankar said, ‘Politics is politics. I cannot guarantee that every country, every day and everyone will support us or agree with us.

He said, ‘We have been trying to build a very strong relationship for the last 10 years and we have been very successful in this.’

He said, ‘There may be ups and downs in politics, but generally the people of that country have good feelings towards India and they know the importance of good relations.’ During this, he also discussed India’s contribution in the development of infrastructure in other countries.

The Foreign Minister said, ‘Today we are involved in works like building roads, electricity, fuel, business, investment and celebrating holidays of people in other countries.’

“These are all part of the things you do to build relationships,” he said. He said, ‘Sometimes things don’t go your way….’ India had also summoned the Maldives ambassador after his remarks on PM Modi.

After the matter escalated, the Maldives government distanced itself from the statements of the three Deputy Ministers. There were reports that all three have also been suspended.

After this, boycotting Maldives tourism started in India. From common citizens to many big personalities had opposed Maldives. Easemytrip had also stopped booking flights to Maldives.
