Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has issued a stern warning to Lebanese armed group Hezbollah.
He said on Sunday that Tel Aviv had in recent days attacked Hezbollah in a manner it could not even imagine.
News agency Reuters quoted Netanyahu as saying, ‘If Hezbollah has not understood the message, I promise it will definitely understand.’
His statement came at a time when Israel has launched heavy attacks on Iran-backed Hezbollah bases in Lebanon. Hezbollah also retaliated and fired rockets at military bases in northern Israel.
On Sunday itself, more than 100 rockets were fired from Lebanon on the northern areas of Israel overnight. The Israel Defense Forces said on Sunday that no injuries have been reported so far.
Earlier in the day, Israeli TV broadcaster Channel 12 reported that Hezbollah had shelled large areas of northern Israel in the past few hours.
Alarm sirens sounded 11 times overnight in northern areas of the city.
Israel and Hezbollah attack each other
“Sirens sounded in several areas of northern Israel between 6:24 a.m. and 07:00 a.m. Approximately 85 rockets entering Israeli territory from Lebanon were detected and some of them were intercepted,” the army wrote on Telegram.
The IDF said Israeli rescue services were engaged in fire-fighting operations in areas exposed to the attacks.
Tensions have escalated since Israel launched a military operation in the Gaza Strip in October 2023. The Israeli military and Hezbollah have been exchanging fire across the border almost every day.
