The country’s next Chief Justice Sanjiv Khanna praised DY Chandrachud for his remarkable contribution.
Khanna said that he worked on a mission to improve the Supreme Court. Pursued its goal of making it a sanctuary of inclusivity accessible to all.
Justice Khanna gave an emotional speech at the farewell ceremony organized by the Supreme Court Bar Association (SCBA) for Justice Chandrachud. He said that his removal from the post will create a vacancy in the Supreme Court.
Justice Khanna said, ‘When a huge tree retreats in the forest of justice, the birds stop their songs. The wind starts blowing differently.
Other trees move and adjust their positions to fill the empty space. But the forest will never be the same again. He said that from Monday we will feel this change deeply.
There will be an emptiness echoing in the sandstone pillars of this Court, a silent echo in the hearts of the members of the Bar and Bench.
‘…there is a record that will never be broken’
Sanjeev Khanna highlighted the qualities of DY Chandrachud as a scholar and jurist who very balanced his professional and personal life while delivering important judgements.
Next Chief Justice Khanna said, ’38 judgments of the Constitution Bench, of which two were pronounced today. This is a record that will never be broken.
Friday was the last working day of DY Chandrachud as the 50th head of the Indian Judiciary. On this occasion he said that there is no greater feeling than serving the needy and those whom he did not know or had never met.
CJI Chandrachud presided over the ceremonial bench of 4 judges. The bench also included Chief Justice Nominee Sanjiv Khanna, Justice JB Pardiwala and Manoj Mishra.
This bench was sitting to bid farewell to Justice Chandrachud. The Chief Justice expressed satisfaction not only with his work but also with the opportunity to serve the country.
