Due to human activities the world’s temperature is also increasing rapidly. Climate change has become the biggest challenge for humans today.
If global warming increases by 3 degrees Celsius, then about 90 percent of the Himalayan region will remain dry for up to a year, according to a research.
According to the findings published in the journal Climatic Change, India can avoid up to 80 percent of the risk of heat, while a 3 degree increase in temperature would make agricultural land more vulnerable to drought. To avoid this, the Paris Agreement will have to be followed. And
The Paris Agreement calls for adhering to the goals of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius.
How does the risk of global warming increase?,
The team, led by researchers at the University of East Anglia (UEA) in the UK, came to the conclusion that how the risk of global warming increases as the risks associated with humans and nature increase.
These eight studies focus on India, Brazil, China, Egypt, Ethiopia and Ghana. According to the study, drought, floods, decline in crop yields and loss of biodiversity and natural capital significantly increase the level of global warming.
Limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees Celsius could help save half of the biodiversity, researchers said. Whereas by keeping it at 3 degrees, only 6 percent can be saved.
How will the impact of drought on agricultural land be reduced?,
According to the research team, due to 3 degree Celsius increase in temperature, agricultural land has to suffer more from drought.
If this happens, more than 50 percent of the cultivated land in every country may have to face severe drought for one year to 30 years. If global warming is limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius, the risk of drought on agricultural land in India will be reduced by between 21 percent (India) and 61 percent (Ethiopia). This will also reduce floods and damage caused by rivers and springs.
Researchers warn on global warming
The researchers said the increase in human risk from severe drought in six countries was reduced by 20-80 percent at 1.5 degrees Celsius compared to 3 degrees Celsius. He said that rising sea levels are expected to cause increased economic losses in coastal countries, adding that if the temperature rise is limited to 1.5 degrees Celsius, there will be a significant reduction in heat.
Researchers warned that more efforts are needed to reduce global warming, as global warming is likely to increase by 3 degrees Celsius under current global policies.
