The department said that due to this cyclone, there is a possibility of heavy to very heavy rainfall at some places in North Tamil Nadu and Puducherry and extremely heavy rainfall at some places in remote areas.

The weather department has issued a warning for North Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and adjoining South Andhra Pradesh coasts.
The IMD said Cyclonic storm Fengal, located over the south-west Bay of Bengal, has moved north-northwestwards at a speed of 7 km/hr during the last six hours. The cyclone is likely to continue moving west-northwestwards and cross northern Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts between Karaikal and Mahabalipuram near Puducherry as a cyclonic storm with wind speed of 70-80 km/hr.
