Impact of lack of justice for trainee doctor on Durga Puja in Kolkata

Kolkata. The trainee doctor of RG Kar Hospital is not getting justice, due to which doctors are continuously protesting. Sex workers are also not behind in getting justice for the trainee doctor. Sex workers refused to give soil for the Durga idol, they said that a doctor is like God and when people cannot respect him. So how can we give soil. If that doctor does not get justice even by next year, then we will not give soil next year as well.
Sex worker Sushma (name changed) lives in Kolkata’s red light area Sonagachi. Every year she used to give soil from her house for the Durga idol. This time she flatly refused to give soil. One of the 10 types of soil used to make the Durga idol is from the red light area. Like Sushma, other sex workers will also not give soil. All of them are angry with the government.
Durga Puja is celebrated with great pomp every year in West Bengal, but this time the atmosphere is a little different. Dharnas, demonstrations and marches are being held in Kolkata to protest the rape-murder of a trainee doctor at RG Kar Hospital. Its effect is also visible on Durga Puja. The Mamata government gives 85 thousand rupees to the local clubs of every area for Durga Puja, but due to the incident, many clubs have refused to take this money. The economy of 50 thousand crores rupees received from Durga Puja in West Bengal is in danger. The employment of 20 lakh people is at stake. This time Durga Puja will start from October 9.
Let us tell you that it is a tradition that the soil for the idol in Durga Puja is brought from the homes of sex workers. Some sex workers say that every section of the society has a share in Durga Puja. Kings, Dalits, everyone has equal rights. This is the reason why the idol of Maa Durga is prepared by bringing soil from the homes of sex workers, but this time after what happened with the female doctor in RG Kar Hospital, the sex workers have refused to give soil.
