Islamabad. Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and PTI leader Imran Khan has suffered another setback. Britain’s Oxford University has removed the name of the jailed Pakistani leader from the race for the post of Chancellor. Oxford University has released the list of eligible candidates for the election, Imran’s name is not included in it. Earlier, Imran had surprised everyone by applying for the post of Chancellor of the University from the jail of Pakistan itself.
Even though Imran has been removed from the race for Chancellor, there is good news for India. This time there are three Indians in the race for Chancellor. Oxford University announced 38 final names in the race for the new Chancellor. These include the names of Ankur Shiv Bhandari, the first Indian-origin mayor of Bracknell Forest in Berkshay, international entrepreneurship professor Nirpal Singh Paul Banghal and medical professional Prateek Tarwadi.
Apart from this, former Conservative Party leader Lord William Hague and former Labor leader Lord Peter Mandelson are among the senior politicians in the race for Chancellor. The university administration said that open applications were invited for the first time and the Chancellor’s Election Committee reviewed all the applications as per the rules.
Earlier, Imran’s party PTI had given information about his application to become the Chancellor of Oxford University. PTI leader Zulfikar Bukhari had said, as per Imran’s instructions, his application form for Oxford University Chancellor Election 2024 has been submitted.
Now it has become clear from the list released by the university that Imran is out of this race. Oxford has said that all applicants have been informed of its decision. Although Oxford did not give any reason for the rejection, some experts had indicated that Khan may have been ineligible for the post due to his criminal convictions in his home country.
