Former Prime Minister of Pakistan and founder of Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) Imran Khan is currently in jail.
There are many charges against him and many cases are going on in the courts of Pakistan. Amidst all this, Imran Khan has taken a big step.
The PTI founder has decided to contest for the post of Chancellor of Oxford University.
Senior PTI leader Zulfi Bukhari confirmed that Imran Khan has submitted an application for the chancellor election to be held in 2024. Bukhari gave this information on the social media platform X.
The current Chancellor of the University of Oxford, Chris Patten, announced his retirement in February 2024 for the academic year 2023–2024.
The university has since invited applications to elect a new chancellor. The chancellor is elected by members of the convocation, all of whom are alumni of the university.
Two members of the convocation are required to nominate a candidate and it is essential that the social services of the candidate must be noteworthy.
Imran Khan and his relationship with Oxford University
Imran Khan has a long and deep connection with Oxford University.
He studied Philosophy, Political Science and Economics from Keble College, Oxford in 1974 after obtaining a Bachelor’s degree from Cambridge University in 1972. Along with this, he also captained the Oxford cricket team in 1974.
This is not the first time that Imran Khan has become a candidate for the post of Chancellor of a university. Earlier, he was the Chancellor of Bradford University from 2005 to 2014 but he resigned from this post in 2014.
This decision of Imran Khan can bring a turning point in the politics of Pakistan. It will be interesting to see if he is elected, will the prison locks be opened for him or will he have to handle the work of Oxford University from the Pakistani jail itself.
